ASIC's OECD-related work

Australia is a member of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). ASIC has participated in working groups on the following OECD guidelines and principles:

1.Guidelines for multinational enterprises
2.Guidelines for protecting consumers from fraudulent and deceptive commercial practices across borders
3.Principles of corporate governance
4.ADB-OECD Anti-corruption initiative, and
5.Convention on combating bribery of foreign public officials in international business transactions

About the OECD
The OECD consists of 30 member countries that share a commitment to democratic government and the market economy and plays a prominent role in fostering good governance in the public service and in corporate activity. The OECD produces internationally agreed instruments, decisions and recommendations to promote international standards in areas where multilateral agreement is considered necessary.

OECD guidelines and principles are not legally binding. They are simply a set of best practice recommendations that the Australian government is seeking to achieve.

For copies of the principles and guidelines go to the OECD's website at www.oecd.org
