2002 insolvency statistics: new format

2003 statistics

In December 2001, ASIC commenced publishing its monthly insolvency statistics in a new format with two tables showing:

how many companies were declared insolvent, ie, how many companies entered a form of external administration for the first time, and
all insolvency appointments. This second table includes figures for companies subject to concurrent or subsequent insolvency administrations, or those that go into voluntary administration and subsequently go into liquidation.

To allow accurate comparisons to be made and to assist the transition to the new format, we have recalculated insolvency statistics from January 1999.

Before December 2001, we issued another form of insolvency statistics which included both new insolvencies and second and subsequent appointments to the same company, which often led to double counting. These continued to be published until the end of the 2000/2001 financial year to provide researchers with a complete set of data.

2002 Insolvency statistics: new format

These statistics are published on the basis they are provisional and unverified. As documents relating to the appointment of external administrators during this period may still be outstanding, they are subject to change when these documents are lodged and processed.
