SMSF auditors - supporting documents

Important notice

A new registration system for SMSF auditors is now available through ASIC's Regulatory Portal.

When you submit an application for registration as an approved SMSF auditor through ASIC's Regulatory Portal, you will need to attach supporting documents as you progress through the online application.

Application checklist

When preparing your application, download a checklist of information and documents you will need to provide as part of your application for registration as an approved SMSF auditor.

Criminal history and bankruptcy checks

You will need to provide criminal history and bankruptcy checks covering all countries in which you have resided for the past 10 years, and in all names by which you have been known. It can take some time to obtain these checks, so you should apply for them early.

Certificate of currency - professional indemnity insurance

You also need to provide a certificate of currency for the professional indemnity insurance policy under which you are covered.

A certificate of currency that refers to an entity other than yourself or your employer as the insured will result in us seeking further information as to who the policy covers.

See Regulatory Guide 243 Registration of self-managed superannuation fund auditors (RG 243) for more information about the professional indemnity insurance requirements.

We are always looking to improve our information for SMSF auditors so we would like to know what's important to you. Please leave us some feedback.
