Introduction to ASIC Connect

ASIC Connect is our online service for interacting with ASIC's registers.

We have four services currently available through ASIC Connect:

  • business names
  • authorised representatives and financial advisers
  • self-managed superannuation fund (SMSF) auditors and
  • search - companies, business names, SMSF auditors and other registers.

Business name registration

Through ASIC Connect, you can apply to register a business name and pay your registration fee online. The application takes around 15-20 minutes and you will get on the spot confirmation that your application has been submitted.

Updating business names

You can use ASIC Connect to update your business name details online. In most cases, you will receive confirmation on the spot that updates to your business name details have been made.

Some transactions are not yet available on ASIC Connect. These transactions must be completed in paper.

Authorised representatives and financial advisers

You can use ASIC Connect to appoint an authorised representative or financial adviser.

Updating representative authorisations

To update the authorisations of your representative, use ASIC Connect.

In most cases, you will receive immediate confirmation that updates to authorisations have been made.

Some transactions, like changing an authorised representatives name or contact details, are not yet available online. These transactions must be completed in paper.  

Ceasing a representative

You can cease a representative using ASIC Connect.

SMSF auditor registrations

You can apply for registration as an approved self-managed superannuation fund (SMSF) auditor through ASIC Connect and pay the application fee online.

Updating SMSF auditor details

Once you have successfully registered as an approved SMSF auditor, use ASIC Connect to ensure that your information on the SMSF auditor register, including details such as names and addresses, is correct and kept up-to-date.

You can also use ASIC Connect to make a number of other notifications.

You can view both free and paid information about entities such as companies, business name holders and SMSF auditors, check names availability, purchase register extracts and documents online.

Company and business name search summaries link directly to the Australian Business Number (ABN) Lookup service when an ABN is displayed in the summary.

You can now use your smartphone to quickly and easily find details on almost five million registered organisations in Australia and New Zealand using NZAUConnect.

A joint initiative of the Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) and the New Zealand Companies Office (NZCO), NZAUConnect brings together two million records from ASIC'S companies register, 550,000 records from the NZCO's companies register, and 1.7 million records included on the Australian National Business Names Register — enabling a person to search a total of almost five million organisations.
