Book to sit the exam

ASIC has engaged the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) as our service provider to manage bookings and deliver the exam.

You can only book and pay for the exam through the ACER online booking portal during the booking period under the exam schedule. The exam is held remotely (via remote proctoring).

Exam eligibility numbers are no longer required.

Booking your exam with ACER

During the booking period you need to:

  1. Create an account through the ACER online booking portal
  2. Book to sit the exam through this account, using an Application ID, issued by ACER.

If you have a financial adviser number (current or ceased), you can select ‘Existing Providers’ when creating your account.  Your financial adviser number will be required to complete your account. You can locate your financial adviser number by searching the Financial Advisers Register.

All other people, including those training to become financial advisers and foreign existing advisers, can select ‘Provisional Relevant Providers and Other Candidates’ when creating your account.

All candidates need to provide the following details:

  • Full name (first name, middle name (if applicable) and surname)
  • Date of birth (day/month/year)

This name must match the details on your official identification document.

ACER will send you an admission ticket before the exam date which must be presented to the proctor with one form of photo identification to access the exam.

If you have previously sat the exam, go to the ACER online booking portal, log in using your existing Application ID and click ‘Resit’ to book the upcoming exam.

You can also use ACER’s online booking portal to:

  • apply for reasonable adjustments if you have a disability or other health-related need that might impact your ability to sit the exam in the standard manner
  • access your admission ticket
  • access your exam results.

You can only book to sit and pay for the exam during the booking period for each sitting, as listed in the exam schedule. Late bookings will not be accepted under any circumstances.

For further information on how to prepare for the exam via remote proctoring, visit Resources: Financial adviser exam and see the Financial adviser exam: Candidate information booklet and the Financial adviser exam: Remote proctoring information and step-by-step guide.

It is your responsibility to make sure your computer meets the technical requirements, as described in the resources.

The exam fee

The exam costs $1,500 for each sitting. This fee is payable when booking to sit the exam.

You will receive a confirmation receipt when you pay the fee. However, a tax invoice is not issued as there is no GST component on the exam fee.
