Digital transformation
ASIC’s vision is to be a leading digitally enabled, data-informed regulator by 2030. Each improvement we deliver brings us closer to that goal.
As we introduce new services and enhancements, this page will show our progress and how we’re delivering on our commitments.
Latest highlights
AFS licensing made easier
Before the improvement
Previously, applying for an Australian Financial Services Licence meant navigating multiple disconnected platforms—ASIC Connect, eBusiness, and the Regulatory Portal—while juggling paper forms and manual steps. The process was manually intensive and resulted in duplication of effort by both applicants and ASIC.
What's changed?
The new AFS licensing portal simplifies and streamlines the digital application experience. It provides a user-friendly and efficient experience by pre-filling information already known to ASIC and only presenting questions relevant to each applicant's application. Forms are simpler and smarter, collecting supporting documentation upfront.
Applicants have greater visibility of current and past applications, and ASIC teams have integrated tools to manage cases efficiently. Risk assessments are streamlined and consistent, helping us prioritise high-risk applications faster.
The result?
A clearer, faster, and more transparent process for everyone.
Strengthening ASIC security
Before the improvement
Previously, accessing ASIC systems relied on just a username and password. This method is vulnerable to phishing attacks and credential theft, creating risks for users and ASIC systems.
What’s changed?
We’ve strengthened Regulatory Portal account security by introducing phishing‑resistant Multi‑Factor Authentication (MFA). Users now confirm their identity with a one-time code via an authenticator app or email in addition to their password. This upgrade aligns with the Australian Cyber Security Centre’s Essential Eight and is a first step in our broader journey to uplift ASICs cyber security.
The result?
A safer, more resilient experience that better protects users and ASIC systems.
Simplifying the search experience
Before the improvement
Previously, the ASIC Professional Registers Search was located on Connect Online, offering an outdated and clunky user experience.
What’s changed?
The Professional Registers Search is now a modern and user-friendly service. By redesigning the service around user needs, we’ve simplified the experience and improved clarity of license and conditions.
The result?
A streamlined experience that makes informed decision making easier.
