Organisation representative

If your business name is held by an organisation, you must appoint someone as the primary business contact. This person is known as the organisation representative.

About organisation representatives

An organisation representative is the primary business contact for a business name held by an organisation. They must be someone ASIC and the public can contact about the business.

Organisation representatives are used by organisations such as associations and trusts. Companies and other bodies registered with ASIC are not required to appoint an organisation representative.

Who can become an organisation representative?

The organisation representative must be a member of the governing body of the organisation. For example, they could be the president, secretary or public officer.

You will need to give their personal details to ASIC. These details are not made available to the general public. Only their name and the date they started as the organisation representative are shown on the business names register.

Overview of the process

You can appoint an organisation representative using ASIC Connect.

You must update any change to their details within 28 days. You can do this on ASIC Connect. If their details were entered incorrectly, such as a birth date or name details, you use a different process to ask ASIC to correct business name details.

To remove an organisation representative, you will need to submit a form. You must do this within 28 days of them ending the role.

To use ASIC Connect

You will need to sign up for an ASIC Connect account and have your business name linked if you haven’t already. Find out how to do this:
