Authorised Representative Register

The Authorised Representatives (AR) Register is published on ASIC connect and is managed by ASIC.

The AR Register is a public record of authorised representatives who have been authorised to provide specific financial services on behalf of the licence holder. It allows consumers to:

  • Check an authorised representative’s status
  • Check an authorised representative’s associated licensee
  • Check if an authorised representative has authority to sub-authorise

All authorised representatives are required to maintain their details on the AR Register.

Who is on the AR Register

The AR Register lists all authorised representatives who are authorised to provide specified financial services on behalf of an Australian financial services licensee.

The definition of an authorised representative is:

A person authorised in accordance with section 916A to provide a financial service or financial services on behalf of the licensee.

These authorised representatives may be:

  • individuals,
  • bodies corporate,
  • partnerships, or
  • a group of individuals and/or bodies corporate that are the trustees of a trust.

Who updates the AR Register

While ASIC manages the AR Register, it is the AFS licensees' responsibility to add and update information on the AR Register. It is a breach of their obligations not to do so and penalties may apply.

If an authorised representative has been appointed to an AFS licensee to sub-authorise representatives, it is the AR’s responsibility to lodge the notice of appointment for the authorised representatives that are appointed.

Information on the AR Register

When you lodge online, the information you submit is updated on the AFS AR Register immediately. This means that you can find out the ASIC number allocated to your authorised representatives straight away by searching our Professional Registers.

Fees for updating the AR Register

Fees and notification periods apply for updating information on the Authorised Representatives (AR) Register.

When an authorised representative's details change, the Australian financial services (AFS) licensee must update the AR Register within 30 business days.

Standard fees

A fee covers one authorised representative. For example, one fee for:

  • appointing (adding) one new authorised representative
  • updating multiple details at the same time about one authorised representative who is already on the AR Register
  • ceasing (removing) one authorised representative

Appointing, updating or ceasing two authorised representative incurs two fees.

Appointing, updating or ceasing 25 authorised representative incurs 25 fees.

If the person is both a financial adviser and an authorised representative, one transaction (one fee) updates both the Financial Advisers Register and the AR Register (you must select both role types in the transaction).
