This page contains information on registering as an individual or authorised audit company.
Before you start
Before you apply, you need to:
Regulatory guidance
Read our Regulatory Guide 180:
Regulatory Guide 180 Auditor registration (RG 180).
RG 180 includes the following sections which explain what information you will need to give ASIC for registration, what documentary proof you'll need to support your application and the application process. They also tell you about the conditions we may impose on your registration.
- Section B Registering as a registered company auditor
- Section C Registering as an authorised audit company
You can download Word versions of the documents listed in Appendix 1 of RG 180.
See Useful tips and application templates.

- Pro forma 216 Authorised audit company registration conditions (PF 216)

How we assess your application
Registered company auditor
You must demonstrate that you have appropriate qualifications and skills, are capable, and fit and proper for ASIC to register you as an auditor.
Pathways for application for registration
There are various pathways available to you for applying for registration, depending upon your individual circumstances. These pathways are set out in Regulatory Guide 180:
Regulatory Guide 180 Auditor registration (RG 180).
Authorised Audit Company
To be eligible for registration as an authorised audit company, you must demonstrate that your company meets requirements covering ownership and control of the company, professional indemnity insurance, fit and proper directors and external administration.
Application refusal
We can only assess complete applications. A complete application is one that includes all the required information and supporting documents. We will return incomplete applications to you.
If you do not meet all the requirements of s1280 of the Corporations Act 2001, we may refuse to register you, after giving you the opportunity to attend a hearing. If your registration is refused, we will provide reasons for refusal.
Application approval timeframe
We aim to assess your application within 28 days from receipt of a complete application. The process may take longer than 28 days, depending upon the complexity of your application and whether we need to request additional information from you.
We may ask for additional information during the assessment of your application. You must provide this information within the timeframe requested, or we will assess your application on the information previously provided.
If you do not meet all requirements including the provision of additional information, we may refuse your application for registration.
