ASIC Connect for business names

ASIC Connect is our online service for interacting with ASIC's registers.

Services available on ASIC Connect include:

ASIC Connect search – for searching company, business names and self-managed superannuation fund (SMSF) auditor registers.

ASIC Connect business names – for:

  • registering a business name
  • renewing the registration of a business name
  • cancelling or transferring a business name, and
  • updating business name details.

ASIC Connect self-managed superannuation fund (SMSF) auditor – for:

  • registering as an SMSF auditor, and
  • updating SMSF auditor details.

Signing up

Although you do not need to sign up to search ASIC's registers, you will need to create an ASIC Connect account to use our online business names and SMSF auditor services. Signing up is once-off process that does not take long.

There are two options for creating an ASIC Connect account:

  • signing up with a username, and
  • logging in with your AUSkey.

How to sign up with a username

To sign up to ASIC Connect with a username:

 Log In To Asicconnect

  • Provide the following information:
    • your full name

    • your email address (which will become your user name)

    • telephone number

  • Once you've submitted this information, we will send you an activation link by email.

How to log in with an AUSkey

You can also log in to ASIC Connect with your AUSkey. To use your AUSkey:

 Log In To Asicconnect

  • Select your AUSkey from the drop down menu and enter your password.

When you log in with your AUSkey, business name and SMSF auditor registrations with the same ABN as the one registered to your AUSkey will automatically be linked to your account. You cannot link businesses with a different ABN to your AUSkey account.

If you need to submit transactions for businesses with a different ABN, you will need to sign up with a username and password.

See our AUSkey page for more information.

Linking a business to your account (username accounts only)

You will need to link a business to your account before you can renew, update, cancel or transfer your registered business name/s.

When linking a business to an ASIC Connect account, you will be asked to provide your ASIC key, date of birth and role in administering the business.

ASIC key: Your ASIC key is a unique number that helps establish your identity, and ensure you are authorised to make changes to your business or one that you administer. The ASIC key is provided on the business name renewal notice and other correspondence from us; however, if you are unable to find it, you can request it using ASIC Connect.

If you do not have your ASIC key, you can request one through ASIC Connect.

Date of birth: When entering your date of birth, please ensure you use the format DD/MM/YYYY (For example 03/07/1982).

Role of contact: You must tell us your role in administering the business by selecting from the list of options provided:

If you are...

Then you must select...

A business name holder

Business name holder

An SMSF auditor

A partner in a partnership or joint venture partnership

An officeholder of a company or organisation that holds a business name

Authorised lodger

Lodging on behalf of a business name holder

Authorised lodger

Adding an authorised lodger

You can appoint an authorised lodger to complete transactions on your behalf. The authorised lodger will need to create an ASIC Connect account and link your business to it, using the ASIC key. When the authorised lodger sets up their account, they must use their own name as we must be able to verify their identity if they need to contact us while acting on your behalf.

Removing an authorised lodger

If you are no longer the authorised lodger for a business – or you want to remove a person who has been appointed as an authorised lodger for your business – you can do so by going to the 'Lodgements & Notifications' tab on ASIC Connect, and selecting the 'Change representative details' option from the list of transactions.
